Familiar Spirits Overview

Two Primary Definitions:
- A demon or supernatural entity believed to assist and obey a witch, often appearing in the form of an animal.
- A close friend or associate with whom one has an intimate connection.

The concept of familiar spirits appears across various traditions, including Western European mythology, Wicca, witchcraft, and medieval demonology. Throughout history, many accused witches were believed to have familiars that aided them in their practices.
Forms of Familiar Spirits

- Human-like Entities: Fairies, imps, or shadowy figures.
- Spiritual Entities: Unseen forces that whisper or manifest through visions and dreams.
Purpose of Familiar Spirits
The role of a familiar spirit varies depending on the belief system:

- Magical Assistance: Enhancing spellwork or divination.

- Leviticus 19:31 — ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.’
- Leviticus 20:6 — ‘And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.’
- Leviticus 20:27 — ‘A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’

How Does One Get a Familiar Spirit?

- Family Lineage: A spirit may attach itself to a family through ancestral involvement in the occult or sinful practices.
- Occult Practices: Engaging in divination, witchcraft, or spiritualism can invite familiar spirits.

Job of a Familiar Spirit

The Bible instructs believers to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit rather than rely on supernatural entities outside of God’s will. Renunciations Against Familiar Spirits
(Breaking all pacts, bonds, dedications, agreements, and manifestations of familiar spirits in the name of Jesus Christ)
1. Renunciation of All Pacts, Bonds, and Agreements
I cancel every spiritual contract or soul agreement made through meditation, astral projection, rituals, visualization, or word curses.
I break all ties with every spirit entity I called upon or that responded to me — whether through ritual, signs, synchronicity, animals, objects, or supernatural manifestations. I renounce every invocation or declaration of intent to work with a familiar spirit or to receive their help, power, or companionship.
2. Renunciation of Spiritual Companionship and “Helpers”
I renounce the belief and lie that I need a spiritual companion, helper, or animal spirit to guide or protect me.
I declare that Jesus Christ is my only Advocate, Helper, and Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), and the Holy Spirit is my only true spiritual Guide (John 16:13).
I break every bond of trust, emotional tie, or dependency that has formed between me and any unclean spirit posing as a familiar or animal guide.
I sever and reject every counterfeit relationship that attempted to mimic the comfort of the Holy Spirit. I declare these demonic influences exposed and powerless.
3. Renunciation of Occult Objects and Tokens
In the name of Jesus, I renounce and reject every object — bones, statues, totems, animal parts, symbols, or gifts — that was used to connect to or house a familiar spirit.
I repent for dedicating or meditating with such objects, and I declare them cursed and powerless in the name of Jesus.
According to Deuteronomy 7:26, I will not bring an accursed thing into my home. I command every demonic attachment to these objects to be broken and cast into the abyss.
I declare that my house, body, and spirit are now dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ alone, and no demonic entity has legal ground to remain.
4. Renunciation of Animal Spirits and Deceptive Signs
I renounce every spirit that has appeared to me in animal form — whether in visions, dreams, meditations, or real-life encounters — and claimed to be a guide, protector, or familiar.
I break all deceptive interpretations of signs, synchronicities, and supernatural experiences that led me to accept their presence.
I declare that I will not follow signs, but follow the Word of God alone, for signs can be manipulated by Satan to deceive.
I sever every soul-tie with animal spirit guides, ancestral spirits, or animal totems that were invoked or accepted into my life.
5. Renunciation of Witchcraft Roots and Traditions
I renounce all involvement with witchcraft, paganism, Norse or shamanistic traditions, and all spiritual systems that invoke familiars, spirit guides, animal spirits, or deities.
I renounce any ancestral heritage or generational practice involving familiar spirits. I sever all bloodline access and generational agreements in Jesus’ name.
I plead the blood of Jesus over my body, soul, spirit, home, lineage, and possessions. I ask for cleansing, purification, and protection.
Deliverance Prayer
Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I come before You seeking deliverance and freedom from every bondage, stronghold, and oppression of the enemy. I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour, and I surrender my life completely to Him.
Renunciations:
- I renounce every covenant, oath, or agreement made knowingly or unknowingly with the kingdom of darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14–15).
- I break every generational curse, ancestral bondage, and inherited sin by the power of the blood of Jesus (Galatians 3:13).
- I renounce all forms of witchcraft, occult practices, divination, and any ungodly spiritual influences that have taken hold in my life (Deuteronomy 18:10–12).
I reject and renounce the spirits of:
- Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
- Doubt (James 1:6–8)
- Confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33)
- Deception (John 8:44)
- Pride (Proverbs 16:18)
- Lust (1 Thessalonians 4:3–5)
- Addiction (1 Corinthians 6:12)

- Any other strongholds that seek to control my life.
- I break every soul tie, ungodly attachment, and ungodly influence that does not align with Your Word, Lord (1 Corinthians 6:16–17).
Decrees and Declarations:
- I decree and declare that:
- I am a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7).
- I am set free from every bondage and stronghold, and I walk in the liberty of Christ (Galatians 5:1).
- No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgment I condemn in Jesus’ name (Isaiah 54:17).
I declare that:
- The Holy Spirit dwells within me, and I am led by His power and wisdom (Romans 8:14).
- I claim victory over sin, temptation, and the works of darkness (Luke 10:19).
- I am more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens me (Romans 8:37).
- I decree that:
- My mind is renewed (Romans 12:2).
- My body is healed (Jeremiah 30:17).
- My spirit is strengthened in the Lord (Ephesians 3:16).
- I am blessed (Deuteronomy 28:6), favoured (Psalm 5:12), and anointed to fulfil my God-given purpose (Jeremiah 29:11).

Binding and Severing Familiar Spirits
Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I come boldly before Your throne, taking authority as Your blood-bought child. I renounce and reject every access point, legal right, or open door that has allowed familiar spirits and monitoring spirits to operate in my life, in my bloodline, or over my family. According to Leviticus 19:31 and Deuteronomy 18:10–12, I turn away from all association with the occult, necromancy, or divination — past, present, or ancestral. I cancel and destroy all satanic assignments from familiar spirits who masquerade as deceased loved ones, as well as those who take the appearance of people I know — friends, family members, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, and strangers — deceiving me in my dreams or waking life. Ecclesiastes 9:5 declares the dead know nothing, so I rebuke every lying spirit using familiar faces to infiltrate my spiritual space. 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns that even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and I will not fall for his counterfeits.
Father, I now bind — by the authority of Matthew 18:18 — every witch, warlock, occult practitioner, psychic, or coven who is using familiar spirits or monitoring spirits against me or my family. I declare every spell, charm, ritual, and enchantment nullified by the blood of Jesus. I render their operations powerless. I bind their influence and cast down every form of astral projection, soul travel, remote viewing, and spiritual spying in the name of Jesus. Luke 10:19 says You have given me authority over all the power of the enemy, so I trample on every serpent and scorpion sent to monitor, afflict, or report back on me or any member of my household. I command every spiritual network of familiar spirits and monitoring spirits assigned to my home, lineage, or territory to scatter by fire and divine judgment.
In the name of Jesus, I sever every spiritual cord, soul tie, linkage, or invisible tether binding me, my spouse, my children, or my family line to any familiar spirit, monitoring spirit, or demonic portal. I renounce every covenant and soul trade made knowingly or unknowingly with the realm of darkness. 1 Corinthians 6:17 declares that I am joined to the Lord and I am one spirit with Him — no longer yoked to deception or bondage. Shine Your holy light, O God, into every dark transaction, hidden altar, or occultic pact made on my behalf or against me (Ephesians 5:13), and destroy them by Your consuming fire.
Father, I declare that I am a new creation according to 2 Corinthians 5:17 — old things have passed away. I command all generational influences of sickness, poverty, bondage, trauma, addiction, and failure introduced through familiar spirits to be uprooted now. I cancel the enemy’s timeline and abort every demonic prophecy over my life. I invoke the power of 2 Corinthians 10:4 and demolish every stronghold. By 1 John 4:4, I proclaim that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. Isaiah 54:17 declares that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and I condemn every tongue, spell, charm, or ritual spoken in secret or in coven gatherings.
Lord, I claim divine covering, insulation, and angelic reinforcement over my life, family, dreams, property, home, and atmosphere. Let Your warrior angels surround me and my family day and night. I block every future attempt of re-entry by these spirits. I loose the fire of God against their altars and their communications. I release healing, restoration, and the glory of God to reign in every area of our lives. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, I declare full deliverance. Amen and amen.
Prayer to Dismantle Familiar and Monitoring Spirits from My Bloodline and Household
Heavenly Father, the Righteous Judge, I stand now in Your heavenly courtroom, coming boldly by the blood of Jesus Christ as Hebrews 4:16 declares: “Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.” I appeal for Your intervention, Lord, against every familiar and monitoring spirit sent, invoked, conjured, or attached to my life and my family.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask You to issue a divine restraining order against all familiar and monitoring spirits operating from my father’s house, my mother’s house, and my in-laws’ house. According to John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” Let me and my entire household receive this freedom now, by the power of Your Word.
Father, I ask that every spiritual eye monitoring my life and the lives of my family members be gouged out, as Psalm 58:10 declares: “The righteous will rejoice when he sees vengeance; He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.” Let their evil eyes be blinded, their timing disrupted, and their attacks frustrated.
I command every network of familiar spirits, every demonic calendar, every cycle of attack, and every assignment of delay or destruction to be severed and overturned in Jesus’ name. According to Isaiah 8:10: “Devise a plan, but it will fail; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us.”
By the authority given in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I have given you authority to walk on snakes and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you,” I trample over every familiar spirit, every monitoring demon, and every demonic report being prepared against me and my family.
Father, let every attachment, spiritual cord, chain, or legal hold that these spirits have upon me or any member of my household be severed now by the sword of the Spirit, as Hebrews 4:12 proclaims: “For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.” Sever every link, Lord, and let every demonic monitoring system fail.
I ask for Your high-ranking angels, as promised in Psalm 91:11, “For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways,” to enforce this restraining order. Surround me, my spouse, my children, and all members of my household with angelic protection.
I plead the blood of Jesus over my bloodline. Cleanse every ancestral agreement, every curse, and every invitation given knowingly or unknowingly to these spirits, in accordance with Colossians 2:14: “having canceled the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us… having nailed it to the cross.”
Father, let the familiar spirits in my father’s house, mother’s house, and in-laws’ house lose every legal right. Let their reinforcements fail. Let their schemes scatter seven ways. Let confusion enter their camp, as Deuteronomy 28:7 declares: “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will march out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.”
I declare that my home, my life, and my family are hidden under the blood of the Lamb. According to Psalm 121:7, “The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.”
Father, seal this divine restraining order by the blood of Jesus. I receive this victory, and I declare that familiar spirits, monitoring spirits, and all demonic operations are dismantled, blocked, blinded, and defeated in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
