Sins Associated with Divination

Many religious and spiritual traditions view divination as problematic or sinful due to its association with supernatural forces, deception, or an attempt to bypass divine will. Common criticisms include:

  • Religious Prohibitions: Many faiths, including Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, explicitly forbid divination as an act of seeking knowledge outside of divine revelation.

  • Deception and Fraud: Some believe divination preys on vulnerable individuals, offering false hope or misleading guidance.

  • Pride and Hubris: Attempting to know the future may be seen as a challenge to divine authority.

  • Contact with Spirits or Demons: Some traditions warn that divination can invite malevolent spirits or demonic influence.

Despite these concerns, divination continues to be practiced for personal insight, spiritual exploration, and entertainment.

Opening Prayer Against Divination

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour. I acknowledge that You alone are the source of truth, wisdom, and guidance (James 1:5). I repent of any involvement, knowingly or unknowingly, in any form of divination, sorcery, or occult practices. Your Word warns against these things, saying, “There shall not be found among you anyone who... practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer... for all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

Lord, I renounce and break every tie to false spirits, deceptive practices, and occult influences. I reject every word spoken over me that did not come from You. I declare, as Your Word says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn” (Isaiah 54:17). By the blood of Jesus, I cancel every curse, spell, or enchantment that has been spoken or performed against me (Galatians 3:13).

Father, I ask You to cleanse my heart and mind from any lingering effects of divination, fortune-telling, astrology, or any false spiritual influence. Your Word declares, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). I stand on Your truth, rejecting all deception, and ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit (John 16:13).

In the mighty name of Jesus, I bind and rebuke every unclean spirit that has tried to operate through divination, false prophecy, and occult practices in my life or my family. I command every demonic stronghold to be broken and cast out, for “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Lord, fill me with Your peace, wisdom, and discernment. Teach me to seek You alone for direction and understanding, as You have promised, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). I surrender my heart completely to You and choose to walk in the light of Your truth.

Thank You, Father, for delivering me from the snares of the enemy. I give You all the glory, honour, and praise. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray.

Amen.

Closing Prayer: Cleansing, Purging, and Victory in Christ

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I thank You for Your love, mercy, and power that sets me free from all forms of darkness. Today, I declare that I am cleansed and washed by the blood of Jesus, purified from every stain of sin, and separated from all ties to divination, witchcraft, and the occult.

Father, I ask that You purge my mind, body, soul, and spirit from every influence of divination, every deceptive voice, and every ungodly spiritual connection. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit consume every remnant of occultic practices, breaking every yoke of bondage that has ever been placed upon me. As written:

“For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:29, NKJV)

By the authority of Jesus Christ, I dismantle and uproot every stronghold of divination that has tried to take root in my life. I renounce every false prophecy, every ungodly revelation, and every demonic assignment that was set against me. Let every spell, incantation, and word spoken against me be nullified by the blood of Jesus, for it is written:

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.” (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV)

Lord, I declare that my home, my family, and everything that concerns me are covered by the blood of Jesus. Every object, book, music, or symbol that has ever been linked to divination is now removed from my life, and I claim complete deliverance. Let every demonic portal be shut and sealed by the power of the Holy Spirit. I refuse to give the enemy any foothold, as written:

“Neither give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:27, NKJV)

I decree and declare that I am victorious in Christ! I am no longer bound by fear, deception, or spiritual oppression. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, and my steps are ordered by the Lord. I walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, in wisdom, discernment, and truth.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36, NKJV)

Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, renew my mind with Your Word, and guide me in all righteousness. I commit myself fully to You, Lord, and I choose to meditate on Your truth, to worship You in spirit and in truth, and to live a life that glorifies Your holy name.

I seal this prayer in the blood of Jesus, and I declare that every work of darkness is broken, destroyed, and cast into the abyss. I belong to Jesus Christ, and His victory is my victory!

In Jesus' mighty name, I pray. Amen and Amen!
